5 Strings?!

Riley has a new bass to play with...lastnight we went to Guitar Center and bought her a five string bass. (Just one extra string to worry about!) She was a little excited, as you may be able to see by her picture. Of course, she's always busy trying to do the "rock pose", so you may not be able to tell how excited she is! Pretty funny to watch her trying out the bass with the pierced, long-haired goth punk wanna-be's who were in there with us. It was entertaining! She definitely likes it though; I could tell by waking up this morning and hearing her playing bass in the room below us!

Nine inches

Okay, I just checked the weather and we actually had 9 inches! I guess I'm not good at guess-timating inches.

"Snow! It won't be long before we'll all be there with snow.....snow....I long to wash my face, my hair, my hands with snow...!" Ahh, Rosemary and Bing made it sound so romantic, didn't they? Most likely they had someone to shovel for them! Well, we had a decent amount of snow. I haven't checked the final totals yet, but we have to be hovering around 7 inches, I would guess. Underneath it all is a nice little layer of ice, which makes things a bit more treacherous out there than they look. But, it is winter, and this is what we sign up for here in the Midwest. How long until spring springs?

fun, fun

I spent the day with my best bud; did the shopping/eating/running around thing and also managed to get my ear cartilage pierced. It was fun! Also, saw my cousin's new baby girl and enjoyed that. She is precious! We are prepping for a major winter storm tomorrow evening...we'll see whether we are the bridesmaids or the bride this time. Also, made a little flannel rag quilt for the new baby. Gotta love sewing this time of year. What a boost to my spirits to have a fun day cruisin' with a friend! YEA!

When Mas was banned from his Valentine's Day ceremony, we came home and took him to the doctor. They swabbed one of his blisters on his fingers and yesterday, they called with the results. He has herpes simplex on his fingers. They call it "herpetic whitlow," which apparently just means herpes on his fingers. I have to include a picture or two of it here. Our real trick now is to keep it clean and dry...two words not normally associated with Mas. He is on antibiotics, antiviral, and antibiotic cream. Poor kiddo!

still our little prince

Well, Mas didn't get chosen as Prince...but, he did get banned from the ceremony entirely due to blisters on his fingers! Poor kid! He missed his Valentine's Day party, also. We're not sure what's up with the fingers, but it is something new for him. It was kind of a bummer day for all of us. But, we're proud he was chosen as the top three and glad so many people know him there already. Riley had two concerts last week, and was able to play her violin, trumpet, and bass guitar. Quite a feat! She is a bass whiz and loves to play. We're so proud of her for picking bass up by herself and doing so well with it. Other than that, not much news here besides an incoming winter storm. We'll see how much we end up getting. Sometimes the more excited they get, the less we receive.

Our Little Prince

We just received word today that Mas is up for Valentine's Day Prince at Children's Care Hospital and School, where he attends school every day. I guess the teachers from each classroom nominate a boy and a girl from each room, and then the staff and students vote and narrow it down to the top three. Mas is in the top three from the younger grades, ages 5-12. How exciting! There is a ceremony at CCHS on Wednesday, where we will find out whether or not he is crowned prince. Of course, to us, he's already a winner, by getting into the top three! How huge is that?! I am so excited! I always wondered what it would be like to have royalty in the family! HA!

Too cold for Frank....

Okay, even Frank couldn't keep up with me today. I went walking this morning for the four mile trek around town, and my iPod froze and quit working! Right in the middle of "Three Coins In The Fountain" by Frank Sinatra...Apparently,
7 Below is too cold for iPods, and Frank, just in case you were wondering. Here's a nice photo of eyelash icicles for ya. Man, I miss normal weather around here!
